Dementia Patient Allegedly Beaten by Officer: Family Demands Justice and Officer’s Removal
John Hardwick - dementia patient beaten by officer

Date

A growing call for justice has emerged in Danville as protesters demand the termination of Officer TJ Godbey, accused of using excessive force against two elderly, disabled men.

Among the victims is 66-year-old John Hardwick, who suffers from dementia and was arrested at a Walmart last October—only for charges to later be dismissed.

Hardwick’s family, supported by civil rights advocates, is now pursuing legal action against the city, citing discrepancies between police body camera footage and Walmart security videos.

This incident isn’t the first time Officer Godbey has faced similar allegations; previous claims arose from his tenure in the Stanton Police Department, further fueling demands for his removal.

With thousands signing petitions and local officials under pressure, the community awaits accountability.
